Custom Interiors

Custom Painting
& Fine Finishes

The finish is the last thing that happens to a house and the first thing anyone sees. This is the work where the prep matters more than the paint.

A wall is only as good as what is underneath it. On custom work we skim, sand and light-check the substrate before a drop of finish coat goes on — because gloss and low-sheen paints reveal every flaw in a wall rather than hiding it. Cabinetry and trim are sprayed, not brushed, so there is no brush texture in a surface people touch.

Walls prepped to the sheen
The flatter the paint, the more it forgives. The more sheen you want, the flatter the wall has to be. We prep to the finish you have chosen, not to a standard drywall level and hope.
Sprayed cabinetry & millwork
Doors, cabinets, built-ins and trim are degreased, deglossed, filled and sprayed to a factory-flat film. Brush marks on a cabinet door are a finish you feel every day.
Ceilings, coffers & feature walls
Coffered and tray ceilings, panel mouldings, feature and accent walls — cut clean, with crisp terminations where two colors or two planes meet. That line is where amateur work gives itself away.
Color, matched in the actual room
A color behaves differently under north light, a warm LED and a Florida afternoon. We sample it on your wall, in your light, before anyone commits to fifteen gallons of it.

Staining
Staining & Wood Finishing

Staircases, Trim
& Millwork

Stain is not paint. Paint sits on top of wood and hides it; stain goes into the wood and commits to whatever is already there. That makes the preparation the entire job — the grain you end up looking at is the grain you sanded.

Taken back to sound wood
Stripped or sanded through a proper grit sequence. Stain will not hide a scratch, a glue line or a sanding swirl — it will find it and darken it.
The species decides the method
Oak drinks stain evenly. Maple and pine blotch badly and need a conditioner or a gel stain to sit down properly. Cedar and other high-tannin woods darken once they are washed. Treating them all the same is how a floor of treads ends up patchy.
Color built in thin passes
Depth is built up gradually rather than flooded on in one heavy coat. It is slower, and it is the only way to actually control the final tone instead of finding out what you got.
Sealed for where it lives
Treads take a floor-rated clear coat because they are walked on. Handrails take a finish that survives hands. Interior millwork takes neither. The topcoat is chosen for the surface, not bought by the gallon for the whole house.

Garage Door
Staining

On most homes the garage doors are the single largest thing on the front elevation — bigger than the front door, bigger than any window. When they are faded and chalky, the whole façade reads as tired no matter how good the rest of it is. Stained properly, they do the opposite.

The enemy is UV, not weather
What kills a stained door in Florida is sunlight. It breaks the clear coat down from the top, the finish goes chalky and dull, and then the bare wood underneath starts drinking water. A south or west-facing door takes the worst of it.
Which is why the topcoat matters more than the stain
Ordinary polyurethane has no business on a door in this sun — it fails and peels off in sheets. Exterior doors want a UV-inhibiting, marine-grade class of finish, the kind that goes on boats, because a boat has exactly the same problem.
Honest about maintenance
An exterior stained door is a maintained finish, not a permanent one. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling. Kept up properly it gets scuffed and recoated rather than stripped — neglected, it eventually has to go back to bare wood.
Matched to the front door
Garage doors, front door and shutters read as one elevation from the street. We tone them to each other so the front of the house looks designed rather than assembled.

Doors that are not timber — fiberglass or steel — can still be gel-stained to read as wood and sealed the same way. Ask us about yours.
